The 2019 Adel Sweet Corn Festival is still about a month-and-a-half away, but it’s never too soon to start thinking about one of the most popular summer celebrations in central Iowa.

The dates for this year are Friday, August 9th, and Saturday, August 10th. The festivities will start with the Shucking of the Corn, where volunteers will prepare seven tons of sweet corn for the next day. The Raccoon Valley Radio Big Red Radio will once again be at the Shucking to provide a soundtrack for the task. The next day the activities only get bigger, with the annual parade, vendors downtown, and of course free sweet corn. The Big Red Radio will also be on hand throughout the event to broadcast live, play music, and provide public address services.

Additionally, the evening will feature the annual Street Dance, which this year is a little more special. Adel Partners Chamber of Commerce Board Vice President Rebecca Hillmer explains, “One big thing we want people to start marking on their calendar for the night of Sweet Corn on August the 10th, the Saturday night, we have a band coming up Nashville, Tennessee called High South. They’ve just finished their European tour, so we’re really looking forward to having them. And that will be family friendly this year. In the past we’ve excluded kids from the Street Dance, but this year we will allow kids to be in there.”
