The City of Minburn holds their popular July Fourth Celebration each year, but there’s going to be an added twist this Independence Day, because it will be coupled with the City’s 150th birthday.

The Minburn Fourth of July and Sesquicentennial Celebration will run between July 3-7, with a theme of “Rolling Home.” Celebration committee member Teresa Bailey says the theme is in honor of the town’s “Singing Wheels” program, which was a big part of Minburn’s history. “Singing Wheels” ran between 1950-1963, and featured musicians performing musicals on roller skates. Activities throughout the week will include music performances, games, a parade, fireworks, and lots of roller skating.

However, Bailey says the big event during the celebration will be the opening of the City’s time capsule, which was locked away in 1969. Attendees will gather at 1 p.m. on July 4th at Meek Park to see what’s inside. Bailey adds, there’s a lot of other events going on in the area during July 4th weekend this year, but she encourages people to give Minburn’s celebration a try. “If you want to go to an old fashioned, fun Fourth of July, come to Minburn. Because traditionally we’ve tried to keep it the same way it was 50 years ago when that time capsule was put in there. We do a lot of the same games, and a lot of the same activities that we did 50 years ago.”
