Greene County never led Monday night at Allensworth Field in Jefferson and Saydel (Des Moines) picked up its first baseball win of the season, 11-4, over the Rams. The Eagles (1-7) led 4-2 in the fifth when the Rams tied the game 4-4 on a Carter Morton single, an Austin Delp triple, and a SAC Fly by Brent Riley. It was all Saydel after that with the Eagles scoring two sixth inning runs and adding five more in the seventh.

Coach John Hupp’s team fell to 4-8 overall and 2-3 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. Austin Delp took the pitching loss, allowing five runs, four earned, on seven hits and one walk. He struck out six Eagles in five-plus innings. Tyler Teeples gave up six runs, all earned, on seven hits and a walk with no strikeouts. Joe Carey got the final two outs.

Delp doubled, tripled, and drove in a run. Joe Anderson doubled and had two RBI, and Riley had the one RBI on a SAC fly.

The Rams got off to a slow start defensively and were charged with four errors in the first three innings.

Greene County plays North Polk tonight in Alleman in HOIAC action.
