Absentee ballots are now available for the special election to fill a vacancy on the Jefferson City Council.
Jefferson residents can vote early in the Greene County Auditor’s office anytime from now through the special election day on Tuesday, June 25th. Those that are wanting to mail in their ballots must have them postmarked by June 24th for them to count. Otherwise, absentee ballots can be hand delivered to the Auditor’s office by 8pm on the 25th.
There are four candidates on the ballot. The candidates include Amelia Carman, Darren Jackson, Michael Mentzer and Mark Wright. A petition was submitted to City Hall following the appointment of Jackson by the City Council to fill the vacancy. The seat became vacant following the resignation of long-time Council member Larry Teeples.
The polls for the special election will be open from 7am to 8pm on the 25th. The polling locations include the Greene County Courthouse rotunda for the 1st Precinct, Trinity Lutheran Church for the 2nd Precinct, and the Greene County Community Center for the 3rd Precinct. The candidate that is elected will serve the remainder of the term through 2021.
