Before Thursday, the Greene County softball team was 0-8. Now, the Rams have won two in a row, including their first of the season in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play over Nevada in Jefferson on Friday night. Greene County improves to 1-4 in conference play and 2-8 overall.
Coach Tom Kennedy’s team got a complete game winning pitching effort from eighth grader Emma Hoyle. She allowed no earned runs on just four hits with two walks and one strikeout.
The offense had seven singles from seven different players. Izzy Bravard and Karissa Stephensen had one RBI each and the Rams took advantage of five Nevada errors while committing just two themselves. Greene County hits belonged to Bravard, Megan Carey, Jenna Beyers, Hoyle, Carmyn Paup, Tieryn Tucker, and Emma Stream.
Nevada scored single runs in the first and sixth innings while the Rams put three on the board in the third and added another run in the sixth.
