About 800 people attended the funeral services of 26-year-old Chase Flack on Friday at the Greene County Middle School gym.

Flack died earlier this month after he collapsed near the end of the Dam to Des Moines race. He was a 2011 Jefferson-Scranton High School graduate, where he placed third twice at the state wrestling tournament and then wrestled part of his college career at Iowa State University.

Chase’s father Craig says his son never quit something he tried to do, even when he was 1 ½ years-old and wanted to climb a big snow hill.

“He didn’t even have gloves on, he looked at that pile of snow and thought, ‘I’m going to climb that.’ He started climbing, and he looked at his hands, because he had no gloves on, and then he looked right back at the top of that pile of snow and kept right on climbing. My dad said, ‘That kid’s got something special.’ Normally a kid would cry I mean their hands would be frozen but he was really determined, whatever he set out to do.”

Burial services were held at the Dodge Township Cemetery in Guthrie County. Memorials may be left to the Chase Flack Memorial Fund at Home State Bank in Jefferson.
