As Saturday’s activities for the Bell Tower Festival in Jefferson are happening today, there’s still some festivities that spill over into Sunday.

Bell Tower Festival Chair Pete Russell says there is a 4-person best shot golf tournament at the Jefferson Community Golf Course at 9am. It is a shotgun start with a $45 per person or $180 per team entry fee. The Greene County Historical Museum will continue to show off local art pieces to the public for free and there will be a free fishing derby tomorrow afternoon. Greene County Conservation Director Dan Towers says contest is open to kids ages 4-15-year-olds at Spring Lake Park. Registrations begin at noon with the competition to run from 1-4pm. Towers says they typically get about 100 kids to participate.

“It’s very consistent and we always hope for that. We talk to a lot of other counties that have fishing derbies and they don’t get nearly that many, so we’re very happy with 100. I think that it’s just been going on for probably 20 some years, people know it’s going to be there and expect it, and people are home for Bell Tower Festival, I think that helps to having people looking for something to do on Sunday. That all adds into a nice crowd.”

Towers adds the contest is free and there will be fishing gear available for kids to use, along with live bait. Prizes will be awarded, including a grand prize for the largest fish that’s caught.
