Win number one of the Greene County High School softball season took just five innings on Thursday for Coach Tom Kennedy’s team. The Rams won 14-3 in five innings by the 10-run rule over Glidden-Ralston in Glidden. The Rams stand at 1-8 while the Wildcats fell to 3-5.
The game was tied 3-3 after one inning before the Rams dominated the final four frames. Eighth grader Emma Hoyle went all five innings on the pitching rubber and picked up her first varsity victory. Hoyle allowed no earned runs on just two hits and four strikeouts. The right hander walked two batters and retired the last 10 she faced.
Greene County had seven hits and drew nine walks. Tieryn Tucker singled, doubled, and drove in four runs. Carmyn Paup singled and also totaled four RBI on the day. Jenna Beyers, Izzy Bravard, and Hoyle, each doubled with Hoyle collecting three RBI and one for Karissa Stephenson. Olivia Shannon also had a single.
The Rams will now try for their first Heart of Iowa Activities Conference victory when they host Nevada tonight at the City Diamond on E. Lincolnway in Jefferson.
