Perry led from start to finish and defeated Greene County 7-6 on Tuesday night in Jefferson in non-conference high school softball. The Jayettes improved to 2-6 while the Rams fell to 0-7.
The Jayettes scored a run in the first inning, three in the third, two in the fifth, and one in the seventh. The Rams scored twice in the third, fifth and seventh innings.
Freshman Jayna Kenney went the distance on the pitching rubber for Perry and picked up her first varsity win. She allowed 10 hits, no walks, and struck four batters out. Eighth grader Emma Hoyle took the loss for the Rams. She went the first 4-2/3 innings and gave up six runs on eight hits while striking out four and walking two batters. Senior Jenna Beyers went the last 2-1/3 innings and allowed one run on three hits. She walked two batters and fanned two.
Both teams had their share of mistakes with seven errors charged to Greene County and four to Perry. Only two of the Jayettes’ runs were earned and none of the Rams’ runs were earned.
Lydia Olejniczak was on base four times for Perry including collecting a double and single. Macy Kilmer singled in a run and Adrianna Eastman had two singles and one RBI. Cassidy Heck had a base hit and RBI, while Gabby West doubled, Kennedy Tunink had a single and run batted in, and Bella Nath added a pair of base hits.
The Rams had three infield hits from slap hitter Izzy Bravard and two singles from slapper Megan Carey. Carmyn Paup had one hit and drove in three runs, with Tieryn Tucker singling in a run. Jenna Beyers, Karissa Stephenson, and Emma Stream all added singles.
Greene County plays baseball and softball on the road later today vs. Roland-Story. The baseball is a varsity doubleheader in Story City while the softball is JV/varsity in Roland.
