The public is invited to see the renovated progress of the Guthrie Activity Center.
The Guthrie Activity Center Board is hosting an open house Wednesday, June 12th from 4-7 p.m. at the facility in downtown Guthrie Center. The interior of the building is nearly completed with features such as a new meeting room, new flooring, and multimedia enhancements. Board President Dennis Flanery encourages those who have contributed towards this project to attend, “We’re hoping that there’s a number of additional types of uses of the building. You know it’s traditionally been used for family gatherings, fundraisers, just various activities such as card players and things like that, but we now have it set up so that businesses and other organizations can use it for multimedia and so we’d just like to showcase all of those different opportunities.”
Work is still ongoing to restore the original brick facade on the building, which Flanery anticipates to be finished by the end of the summer. The building received a Main Street Iowa Bricks and Mortar Challenge grant of $70,000 last fall.
