Dallas County ISU Extension and Outreach is once again offering their popular Babysitting Basics program, just in time for teens in the area to get some work over the summer.

Extension Director Jeff Jackson says the clinics are open to girls and boys in fifth grade and above, and it will include education on a wide assortment of skills involved with caring for a child. Jackson points out that a certificate from the program will be very attractive to potential babysitting clients. “Really at the end of the day, this is a way to you now as these youth to be able to be certified. I know I’ve got a baby on the way and I’m definitely, if somebody was to babysit it, I would want to know that they’ve been through training, through CPR, through kind of understanding those ages and stages, and even those fun activities as to what to do with the children as your sitting around!”

Jackson adds, the Babysitting Basics clinics have a tendency to fill up fast, so he recommends anyone interested should sign up soon. The next location for the classes will be at Redfield City Hall this Thursday and Friday. After that, there will be clinics at the Adel Public Library on June 10th and 11th. That will be followed with training at the Towncraft Building in Perry on June 27th and 28th, and the final session will be July 29th and 30th, back at the Adel Library. Each session will start at 9 a.m. The cost for each class is $25 per person.
