The City of Perry recently pledged a large sum of money to help fund the Sesquicentennial Celebration in July.

The City Council approved a donation of $5,000 to the event, making the City a “Golden Spike Sponsor.” However, City Administrator Sven Peterson says the method of distributing the money is fairly atypical. At the recommendation of the City’s auditors, the funds will be provided by the City directly paying for up to $5,000-worth of invoices for the celebration. Peterson says that will allow the auditors to track exactly what the money is being used for.

With their contribution, the City is now one of two “Golden Spike Sponsors,” along with the Perry Chamber of Commerce. Peterson adds, there have been other sponsors to step forward as well, though he encourages anyone else to help fund the festivities. “If there’s anybody out there interested in becoming a sponsor, please get ahold of either the Chamber of Commerce or me at the City, and we can get you some information on that. Sponsorships ranging from that ‘Golden Spike’ of $5,000, all the way down to individual sponsors. So (it’s) a chance for everybody to be involved and be recognized for this event.”

The Sesquicentennial Celebration will be held July 5-7, with events taking place throughout the City and at the Perry Municipal Airport. To learn more about the event, listen to yesterday’s Perry Fareway Let’s Talk Dallas County program at RaccoonValleyRadio.com.
