Greene County started the high school baseball season with two wins, but since then has lost four straight. The latest loss took place in Winterset on Friday night by a 10-3 final. The Huskies improved to 3-1 while the Rams fell to 2-4. The home team led all the way with a run in the first and five in the third for a 6-0 advantage. Greene County scored single runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh, and Winterset scored twice in the fifth and sixth. Greene County had seven hits to nine for the Huskies.
Junior Brent Riley took the pitching loss, going the first five innings and giving up eight runs, four earned, on eight hits and a walk. Riley recorded four strikeouts. Junior Tyler Teeples pitched an inning of relief. He allowed two runs, both earned, on a hit and two walks, with no strikeouts.
Offensively, Greene County had a double, two singles, and a run batted in from senior Austin Delp, who played more than 80 minutes of soccer at the State Tournament for the Rams Friday afternoon in Des Moines. Senior Joe Anderson singled twice, with freshman Bryce Stalder singling and driving in a run. The other Greene County hit was a single by junior Carter Morton.
The Rams play a JV/varsity twin bill today at Dallas Center-Grimes with the JV starting at 11 a.m. and the varsity to follow.
The Ram softball varsity is at the Bondurant-Farrar tournament in Bondurant at the middle school today.
