A non-profit organization that seeks to assist sick infants and their families is hosting their 10th annual golf tournament fundraiser in Panora next week.
The John D. Gomke Charity Classic has expanded to two days this year, happening on Friday, June 7th and Saturday, June 8th at the Lake Panorama National Resort and Conference Center. Proceeds will go to the John D. Gomke Charity, Incorporated. which holds free CPR and first aid classes, provides keepsakes to families who lose a child at the Mercy Children’s Hospital in Des Moines, and “adopt” families to help them through their first holiday season with the loss of a child.
Panora Chamber Vice President Amanda Creen shares how the charity has helped the local community, “One of the great things that they do for Panora and Guthrie County in general is that they donate defibrillators to the schools. So not only do they donate the defibrillators but they also pay for the recurring costs of updating the pads and the batteries for the units, they’ve made sure that we have one in every building in our Panorama schools. And so we definitely want to, although they’re not Chamber members per se, we want to make sure that we plug the good events that they’re doing.”
Three defibrillators have been donated each to Panorama and Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center schools, and two to West Central Valley Schools. Four-member teams can register for this 18-hole tournament. For more information contact the charity at 515-314-9171 or info@johnscharity.org.
