The ACGC softball and baseball squads traveled to Earlham Thursday night for a West Central Activities Conference doubleheader with the Cardinals. Both home teams extended their winning streaks over ACGC with a pair of sweeps.

On the softball field, the Cardinals took advantage of several Charger errors in game one as they cruised to a 9-1 victory. The Cardinals scored at least one run in every inning they batted, except the 5th. Senior Grace Voss tallied three of Earlham’s nine runs and sophomore Alli Boyle recorded three RBIs. Sophomore pitcher Madeline Janssen struck out ten Charger batters and allowed just one walk. The lone run for the gold and black in game one came off a solo home run from sophomore Madalyn Kelsey. That’s Kelsey’s sixth homer of her career and ACGC’s second this season.

The Chargers were hoping to bounce back in game two, and got off to a good start with a 3-1 lead after the first inning. The Chargers held that lead until the top of the sixth when the Cardinals poured on seven runs to regain the lead. That was enough to seal game two as they won, 8-4. Janssen picked up her second win of the night while ACGC’s Savana Fuller collected the loss in both matches. The ACGC softball team is now 0-6 all time against the Cardinals.

The ACGC baseball team was blanked with losses of 18-0 and 11-0 respectively. The Charger baseball team will look to get their first win of the season as they travel to Anita tonight for a matchup with the CAM Cougars. You can hear that game live on True Country, K107.9. First pitch is set for 6pm from Anita.
