The Perry Parks and Recreation Department has been spending the past few months getting the City’s public parks ready for the summer, and Director John Anderson feels they’ve been able to accomplish a great deal.
He says much of the work done so far has involved routine maintenance to Wiese, Pattee, and Perkins parks, as well as smaller projects like getting the downtown planters filled. Anderson points out that the jobs have become easier thanks to improved equipment. “Last year was the first real year that we were able to get in there and trim all the trees and cut down some dead trees, because we have the equipment now. So thank you City Council and administration for providing the proper equipment for us to maintain our parks now!”
One piece of equipment Anderson says has been particularly helpful is a stump grinder, which allowed crews to get rid of around 20 tree stumps from city parks. He emphasizes that not having to deal with stumps will speed up their maintenance of the parks significantly. In addition to the yearly park maintenance, Anderson says they’re also in the midst of several projects, with the biggest being getting electricity to the gazebo at Wiese Park and remodeling the large shelter house at Pattee Park.
