The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Tuesday.

During open forum, a report was made on a meeting between some of the Supervisors and Jefferson Matters: Main Street, regarding public art on the courthouse grounds. County Attorney Thomas Laehn noted that the Board should have control over what is displayed on the courthouse grounds, but shouldn’t prohibit displays of art. The Board decided to allow Laehn to draft a policy for them to act on at a future meeting.

Also during open forum, County Engineer Wade Weiss gave a brief update. He said the roof of the Mahanay Bell Tower has been repaired. There are still issues with windows leaking water, especially around the observation deck, that need to be addressed. The Board directed Weiss to look into a company to address the window issue.

The Board then approved several joint drainage district assessments and waiver rates, where Greene County was the control county. They approved Drainage District 150-86 with Carroll County of nine-percent assessment and set a waiver rate of six-percent, Drainage District 18-35 assessment of five-percent with Webster County and set a waiver rate of six-percent, Drainage District 104-8 with Guthrie County of four-percent assessment with a six-percent waiver rate, Drainage District 8-55 with Calhoun County of nine-percent assessment with a six-percent waiver rate, and an assessment of 12-percent for a drainage district where Boone County was the control county with a six-percent waiver rate. Additionally, the Board approved a resolution for all of their drainage district assessments and waivers as presented.

Finally, the Board approved a $2,500 Louis Dreyfus funding request for the Grand Junction 150 Committee. The three-day event will be held from August 2nd-4th and will include a carnival, historical presentations, parade, live bands, and more. The Board voted 4-1, with Vice-Chair Dawn Rudolph voting “no.” She said she wanted to make sure that all other communities had a chance to obtain the funding that Grand Junction was given. Chair John Muir remarked that the other communities do if they were to apply for funding. Louis Dreyfus is a discretionary funding account that the Supervisors can use for a limited amount of years.
