There are several opportunities to honor veterans and those who have died in service for Memorial Day in Guthrie County.
The Stuart American Legion Post 146 is holding a service at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the South Oak Grove Cemetery. Another service will be led by the Guthrie Center American Legion Post 124 at 10 a.m. at the Freedom Rock Park on Highway 44 west of town. Barry Monaghan will give an address and music will be provided by the Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center High School Band. The public is invited to attend and bring a lawn chair. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held in the Guthrie Center High School auditorium.
The Panora American Legion Post 372 and the VFW Post 5510 will also hold a ceremony at 10 a.m. at the Veteran’s Auditorium. Members of the Iowa National Guard, reserves, and active forces will be attending, along with a guest speaker, and vocal music will be performed by Panorama students. Refreshments will be served following the service.
