The ACGC baseball team kicked off West Central Activities Conference play Thursday as they welcomed the Des Moines Christian Lions to Guthrie Center. Unfortunately for the Chargers, the Lions extended their winning streak over ACGC to six games, as they won both games in the doubleheader.

The Lions’ ace, Brett Shelton, struck out 13 ACGC batters in game one. In contrast, the three Charger pitchers allowed ten walks. DMC held a 2-0 lead heading into the top of the 3rd. After a lengthy weather delay, the Lions poured on eight more runs to cruise to an 11-0 finish. Avery Wheatley, Ben Kingery, and Newell Rogers where the long Chargers to get a hit in game one.

In game two, the Lions scored six runs in the bottom of the 5th to grab an 8-0 lead. They sealed the deal in the bottom of the 6th with two more runs to reach the ten run rule. The Lions have now held the Chargers scoreless in their last four meetings. Bryce Littler picked up the loss in game one and Will Byars received the loss in game two. The Chargers fall to 0-3 (0-2 WCAC), while the Lions improve to 2-0 overall (2-0 WCAC). The Chargers will continue their search for the season’s first win when they travel to Ogden Tuesday.

The ACGC softball team grabbed a split with DMC for the second straight year. After dropping the first game 6-4, the gold and black bounced back with an 11-9 victory in game two. The Chargers improve to 3-1 (2-1 WCAC). They will also be at Ogden on Tuesday.
