The ACGC softball team came into Wednesday night’s matchup with Madrid having lost the last three meetings with the Tigers. That streak came to an end as the Chargers stay undefeated on the season with an 8-4 victory.
The Chargers struck first in the bottom of the 1st after Genevieve Hoover’s single drove in Sierra O’Brien. After the Tigers tied it up in the top of the 2nd, the Chargers added two more in the bottom half of the inning. Kylie Young scored on a pair of Madrid infield errors and Reese Coffman came across the plate following a fielder’s choice to make it a 3-1 advantage.
The Chargers added four more by the bottom of the 5th to extend the lead to 7-1. Madrid made things interesting in the top of the 6th, scoring three runs off a Shelbi Raymond double and a pair of ACGC infield errors. But the Chargers held the lead, adding an insurance run in the bottom of the 6th to maintain the advantage.
Savana Fuller pitched a complete game, striking out nine Tiger batters and allowing just one earned run. Madrid pitchers Addy Dean and Macy Gibbons allowed a combined seven walks in six innings. The Chargers improve to 2-0 overall (1-0 WCAC).
Both squads are set to host the Des Moines Christian Lions in a WCAC doubleheader tonight. You can hear game one of the ACGC baseball doubleheader on True Country, K107.9 and RaccoonValleyRadio.com. Pregame is set for 5pm with first pitch around 5:30 from Guthrie Center.
