One person has died as the result of an unconfirmed tornado in Adair County early Wednesday morning.

According to the Adair County Sheriff’s Office, dispatch received a 911 call at about 1:56 a.m. from the residence in the 1000 block of Elk Avenue, about a half mile southeast of Adair. Agencies responded to the home and found 74-year-old Linda Lee Brownlee, who was deceased, and 78-year-old Harold Brownlee, who had sustained serious injuries. Harold was flown by air ambulance to a Des Moines hospital. Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf confirms the residence was destroyed and two to three out buildings were damaged on the property. Debris from the farmstead landed on Interstate 80 at mile marker 77, and a semi was reported in the ditch at that location. The National Weather Service is conducting a storm survey, and a press conference will be held today at Adair City Hall. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
