Greene County ventures southwest to Oakland later today to face Riverside in a Class 1A Substate 8 boys’ soccer semifinal at 6 p.m. The winner faces either sixth ranked AHSTW (Avoca) or Underwood on Saturday, May 25 in Oakland at noon for the Substate 8 title and a trip to next week’s State tournament. AHSTW and Underwood play at 4 p.m. today in Oakland with the Rams and Bulldogs in the second match of the day.

Riverside is tied for 13th in the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association poll while Coach Carl Behne’s Rams are ranked eighth. The Bulldogs have a 14-3 record and the Rams are 12-5. Riverside is riding an eight match winning streak and averages just short of four goals per game while giving up just over two per contest. The Rams have a 5.8 offensive average and on defense they average giving up just 1.47 goals.
