The Perry girls softball team showcased some opening night power but six errors in the field prevented them from using that power to their advantage.  Des Moines Christian defeated Perry 10-5 Monday on a chilly opening night at the PAC.  The Lions jumped out to a three run lead in the top of the second inning taking advantage of a two-out error.  Perry sliced the deficit to two runs on two different occasions but could come no closer.  8th grader Lydia Olejniczak made a splash in her varsity sport debut.  The young shortstop finished with three runs scored including a solo homerun over the left field wall.  Kennedy Tunick connected on her first career varsity homerun clearing the centerfield fence while later adding an opposite field double.  Gabby West ripped three hits including a pair of doubles and finished with 1 RBI.

Freshman Jayna Kenney took the loss in the circle, pitching 7 innings allowing 11 hits, 3 walks and four earned runs.  She finished with one strikeout.

Perry will travel to North Polk tonight.
