The high school boys’ soccer postseason starts tonight in Grand Junction for the Greene County Rams. Coach Carl Behne’s team is 11-5 and ranked eighth in Class 1A. They’ll host 2-15 St. Albert of Council Bluffs in the first home postseason soccer contest for Greene County, a second year program. The Rams have clinched a second straight winning season and are one of Iowa’s highest scoring teams.
The Rams will face a Falcons’ squad that has 17 total goals in 17 matches. St. Albert did win it’s last regular season match, stopping a losing streak of 12 in a row. They scored five goals in each of the two victories, but just seven goals combined in the 15 losses.
Greene County has Iowa’s leading goal scorer and point scorer in Junior Gutierrez, and Luis Velazco, tied for eighth in scoring in Iowa high school boys’ soccer.
Starting time tonight in Grand Junction is 6:30 p.m. The winner goes to Oakland on Wed., May 22 to face either number 13 Riverside or Logan-Magnolia.
