Lots of work was done to get the Jefferson Municipal Pool ready to open by this weekend.
Parks and Recreation Director Vicky Lautner says the new PVC liner was installed by May 4th, while new flooring in the two bath houses was completed on May 6th. City crews then put back benches, shelves and turned the water back on inside the facility. Lautner says the goal of the liner was to reduce maintenance.
“About the only thing that we’re going to have to watch is the caulking around the top of the pool of the liner. But no the rest of it, the only thing it’s going to take is just cleaning it out with a hose and in the fall we’ll just leave the water in it and in the spring we’ll drain the water out and scrub her down with a hose and start all over again.”

She adds that in the fall they will install a cover to put on top of the pool when the season is over. This is to prevent leaves, animals and other debris from getting inside the pool and staining the liner. Both the liner and the cover were paid from the City’s general fund and will be reimbursed through issuing general obligation bonds.
Lautner says the pool will be open for adult lap swim starting Saturday, May 25th through Tuesday, June 4th from 11:30am to 1pm. The pool will then be open for the regular season on June 5th. To hear more from Lautner, listen to today’s Community State Bank in Paton Let’s Talk Greene County Program.
