The shuttle hurdle relay and Brianna Osterson in the long jump competed yesterday during day one of the three day Iowa High School Coed State Track & Field Championship at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. Three more events are on the docket for today.
Osterson finished 22nd in the Class 2A long jump at 15′ 5-/14″, and fouled two of her three jumps in the preliminaries. It was a rare off day for the sophomore, who placed eighth at State last year and was seventh last month in the event at the Drake Relays.
The shuttle hurdle relay team of senior Melanie Doran, junior Izzy Bravard, sophomore Makala Kafer, and sophomore Lily Muir ran the prelims and did not make the final. They ran 1:11.45, were third in their heat, and sixteenth overall, several places higher than they entered the competition.
Weather conditions were hot and unlike anything the athletes had experienced so far this season. Today is expected to be warm, but perhaps 10 degrees cooler.
On today’s schedule for the Greene County girls is sophomore Brooklynn Olson throwing the discus at 9 a.m., the 4 x 200 meter relay final at 10:50 a.m. with Doran, junior Maddy Sigler, Kafer, and Osterson. The 4 x 100 meter relay prelims are set for 12:40 p.m. with Sigler, Doran, Kafer, and Osterson.
All three Raccoon Valley Radio stations will have updates on the air throughout today, and so will www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
