The Adel City Council convened Tuesday evening in regular session.

The meeting began with a report from Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Superintendent Greg Dufoe on the District’s upcoming bond referendum for a new school building in the City. That was followed by a proclamation for Mental Health Month. There were five public hearings on topics including: the plans and specifications and bids received for the Adel City Hall window replacement project; the plans and specs for the water treatment plant project; a moratorium on pole, pylon, and monument signs through November; and the fiscal year 2019 budget amendment. No one spoke against any of those four items, so later in the meeting the Council approved resolutions related to each.

The fifth hearing was more controversial, and it involved a rezone request by Cramer and Associates to shift 80 acres in the Southbridge Planned Urban Development area from A-1 (agricultural) to R-1 (residential – high density). After hearing comments from the public, the Council elected to delay action on the request until their June 11th meeting, as Council member Dan Miller was not in attendance and they wanted his input. Other items on the agenda that were approved included: the first reading of an amendment to the snow emergency ordinance; fiscal year 2019 budget transfers; and a change order of $28,807.50 and pay application of $252,839.65 from Crow River Construction for the Bryan and Rapids Street water main replacement project.

There will not be a second Adel City Council meeting in May.
