The Greene County Sheriff’s office is investigating an ongoing issue of farm property being sold without permission from the owners.
Sheriff Jack Williams says a male suspect from Hamilton County has been driving around Greene County taking pictures of farm equipment and allegedly selling it on Craigslist. Then the suspect will show up with the buyer where he took the picture and sells them the item. However, Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio the suspect doesn’t have permission from the owner of the farm equipment to sell it. Williams says the first incident happened at the end of April and the most recent incident was Thursday night when the owner of the equipment showed up as the transaction was about to take place and the suspect fled the scene and reportedly left the county.
Williams warns area farmers to be watchful of their equipment and make sure they know where all of their equipment is at all times. The suspect’s vehicle description is a silver Audi station wagon with Waterloo car dealership license plates. Williams says if anyone sees a vehicle that fits the description, you are to call the non-emergency number of the law enforcement center in Jefferson at 515-386-2136.
