The Perry Parks and Recreation Department is once again offering swimming lessons this summer, and classes are filling up fast.

Aquatics Director Kami Kirchner says there will be three sessions held at the McCreary Community Building, with the first starting June 10th. There are seven different levels of instruction, starting with preschool swimmers, and groups are then divided based on ability as opposed to age, ranging from 1-6. Each of the three sessions will run for two weeks, and the cost is $28 for members and $38 for non members. The deadline to sign up is either a week before each session, or whenever it fills up.

Kirchner adds, classes will reach capacity quickly, so she encourages parents to sign up sooner rather than later. “We are taking fewer kiddos this year, just because we don’t have quite as many employees and we don’t want to have lesser swim lessons. We’re going for quality over quantity. We want to offer good quality swim lessons, rather than a bunch of really bad swim lessons to get a bunch of kids in.”

Perry Parks and Rec is still looking to hire more swim instructors, which would result in larger class sizes. Kirchner points out that unlike previous years they will hire people as solely teachers, without lifeguard shifts.
