The trial of an accused murderer and former Greene County resident has been moved out of Story County.
According to court documents, District Court Judge Bethany Currie granted the request for defense attorney for 22-year-old Collin Richards to be moved to Winneshiek County. Richards is charged with a Class A Felony for the first degree murder of Celia Arozamena on September 17, 2018. Law enforcement agencies found her body at Coldwater Golf Links in Ames and authorities later found evidence that connected Richards to the murder.
Sources say Richards’ attorney filed a motion on April 15th stating that Richards wouldn’t get a fair trial due to the continuing media coverage.
Richards remains in the Story County Jail under a $5 million bond. His jury trial is scheduled for September 10th to be at the Winneshiek County Courthouse. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
