U.S. Congressman Steve King continues to work with the Executive Branch of the White House, despite not working on House committees.

One area that he has been working on is immigration issues. King recently presented to President Donald Trump a visa bonding system that already exists to try and hold illegal immigrants more accountable when they need to renew their visas. He says when someone from another country wants to purchase a low-level visa, like a student or tourist, the federal government would put a hold on their credit card and attach a bond amount to that hold.

“When they return back to their country, then we release the hold on their card, but if they didn’t return, we would automatically bill that card for the bond amount. And that would be an incentive for them to honor the visa and go back home (to their country) again. The resources of the bond go into an enforcement fund to allow ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) to have the funding necessary to enforce the immigration laws.”

King adds, about 40-percent of illegal aliens are here legally on a visa, but stay here past their visa’s expiration date. King points out that this system currently exists within the powers of the Executive Branch, which when pointed out to Trump, the President was surprised to find out about that system.
