Greene County fell to 7-2 in boys’ high school soccer with a 2-1 loss in Alleman on Tuesday night vs. North Polk. Coach Carl Behne’s Rams are ranked sixth in Class 1A, but have now dropped two of their last three matches. Both losses were by 2-1 scores and both were decided by a penalty kick. Coach Behne reports a hand to ball violation in the box resulted in the PK, which the Comets made. He added, “This was a learning opportunity for us and a chance to clean up before it matters and we don’t want to go home 1-2. I’m proud of the effort again as the boys pushed until the final second.” The coach said the Rams had three very close scoring chances late in the contest on a very cold, windy, and rainy night.

Junior Gutierrez had the Greene County goal. He remains one of the top goal and point scorers in the entire state. In nine matches he ranks second in Iowa with 24 goals and second in points with 58. The leader in both categories has played 11 matches.

The schedule gets even tougher on Saturday when the Rams face number one ranked and two-time defending 1A State Champion Iowa City Regina in the Nevada tournament.
