At the onset of the whole-grade share between Adair-Casey and Guthrie Center, two prolific long-distance runners joined forces to form one of the best duos in the state. That duo will continue after high school graduation as both ACGC seniors Clay Billheimer and Noah Nelsen will run for the Simpson College Storm in Indianola next year.
For Billheimer in particular, there was another Storm runner that drew him to choose Simpson. “Cale, my brother, played a major factor. I’ve gone down there a couple times (and) really loved it.”
Billheimer also comments on continuing the journey with Nelsen. “It’s going to be fun. We can get some more PRs, get some better times, and just being his teammate for another four years is going to be awesome.”
The pair hold four individual Charger records between them. Nelsen is coming off a 4th place finish in the 3200 at the Class 2A state meet last year, which was the highest finish in Charger boys track and field history. Billheimer’s highest finish at that same state meet came in the 800, where he placed 10th. To hear the full interview with Billheimer, listen to tonight’s Wahl McAtee Tire and Service Center Guthrie County PM Sports Page, beginning at 6pm on True Country K107.9.
