For the third straight year, Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Schools plan to be closed to anyone desiring to open enroll into the District.

To combat the rapidly growing community and student body, the District halted open enrollment until new facilities can be constructed. Superintendent Greg Dufoe says there are a few exceptions to the rule, including any children enrolled prior to the embargo, and their younger siblings. Other exceptions include the children of ADM employees, and anyone who moves out of the District but would like their children to stay with the school. Dufoe feels the policy is reasonable and they haven’t had much push back thus far, though he’s hopeful they soon won’t require the embargo. “We feel like it’s a good policy at this point, it allows us some of those exceptions but gives us a little bit of time before we open it back up. (We’ll) have a new school building hopefully in two years, and (we) can consider opening open enrollment back up fully.”

The ADM School Board is expected to vote on a resolution to remain closed to open enrollment at their May regular session. Dufoe adds, the first step in lifting the embargo would be the passage of the upcoming $15.75 million bond referendum, which would provide funds to construct a new elementary building in Adel. Even further down the road, the District is considering the addition of a sixth school building, though which grades would attend isn’t yet known and nothing solid has been proposed at this time. The special election on the elementary bond referendum will be held on June 25th.
