Jefferson residents looking to do some spring cleaning and get rid of some unsightly items can do so next week for free.

It will be the Spring Clean-Up Week and each resident will be allowed two free hopper loads of garbage. Anything after the second hopper load will be a $25 charge per hopper load. Other items that will incur a separate charge includes $25 for appliances, $40 for appliances that contain freon, and electronic devices will have an additional charge. Items that will not be picked up are tires and whole trees. City Administrator Mike Palmer says both the spring and fall clean-up weeks have proven to be successful in the past.

“The spring clean-up is probably one of the bigger ones, but it’s always surprising on the fall clean-up how much there is too. There’s a lot of stuff out there. Some have none and some have great big piles, but that’s kind of why we kind of had to put on how much we can take at a time before we start charging again. It is a great service. It really helps get a lot of stuff out of people’s houses and yards.”

Spring Clean-Up Week will be from April 22nd through the 25th on your normal garbage day. Residents are reminded to have their garbage and items for clean-up week neatly stacked for easy pick-up and at curbside by 6am. For a full list of accepted items, click the link below.
