The deadline is approaching to apply for the annual Raccoon Valley Radio Business and Broadcasting Scholarships.

The radio station is offering two $250 scholarships to any graduating seniors from Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center, Adel-DeSoto-Minburn, Dallas Center-Grimes, Earlham, Greene County, Nodaway Valley, Panorama, Paton-Churdan, Perry, Van Meter, West Central Valley, Winterset, or Woodward-Granger, who are interested in pursuing a degree in business or broadcasting at any post-secondary school. Applications are available through each of the schools’ guidance counselors, as well as on our website, RaccoonValleyRadio.com. Interested students have until Friday to turn in their applications to either their guidance counselor or to the KDLS studio, located at 22562 141st Drive in Perry.

Raccoon Valley Radio General Manager John McGee says aside from an interest in business and broadcasting, he’s looking for one specific quality. “The biggest thing I’m looking for is character. Who’s going to represent not only us as a radio station well, but who’s going to represent their high school well, who’s going to represent our home town communities well? And then of course, we couldn’t do this without our clients, so we want to make sure that they’re going to represent those businesses in the communities their in very well as well.”

McGee adds, the scholarships are funded by the area businesses taking part in the annual Raccoon Valley Radio Senior Salute program, where all of the seniors from area schools are recognized.
