The Iowa Association of Track Coaches has introduced a modified competition for outgoing track competitors to showcase their skills. The IATC will be hosting the 2019 Senior All-Star Track and Field Championships at Iowa City West Stadium on Saturday, June 1st. The meet, which is divided into North and South divisions, will gather the best seniors across the state in each individual event for the competition by using a gold standard.

A few ACGC Chargers are nearing that gold standard based on season times turned in before Tuesday night’s Earlham Invitational. For the boys, Noah Nelsen is 15 seconds shy of hitting the 9:43.95 standard in the 3,200 meter run. Clay Billheimer is less than six seconds shy of the 1:57.64 standard in the 800 meter run and less than five seconds away from the 50.10 mark in the 400 meter dash. Both Nelsen and Billheimer are about 20 seconds off the 4:26.24 standard in the 1600 meter run. Gabe Rowley is about 5.5 seconds off the 55:01 mark in the 400 meter hurdles. Dylan Soper is less than two seconds away from the 200 meter mark and less than one second from the 100 meter mark. His best times are 24.16 and 11.82 while the standards are 22.33 and 11.01.

As for the girls, senior Madison McDermott is less than three feet from the standard of 40.025 in the shot put and 19 feet from the 126-04 mark in the discus. Savana Fuller also has a chance at hitting the marks in the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Her bests going into the Earlham Invite are less than one and three seconds from the marks of 12:59 and 26:18 respectively.

Three area athletes have already reached the standards, with all three eligible for spots on the Girls South Team. Those three are ADM’s Anna Kenny in the 400 meter hurdles, Panorama’s Morgan Johnk in the high jump, and Panorama’s Lydia Knapp in the discus.
