For Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Week, the Guthrie County office is asking for the community’s participation in multiple ways to mark the occasion.

Guthrie County Extension is asking trivia questions on their Facebook page with winners to receive prize baskets. They are also collecting donations this month for two summer projects. The first is summer STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) kits for youth to take home. The second is the Guthrie County 4-H Day of Service to be held June 19th. The 4-H’ers will complete six projects for local organizations such as New Opportunities, the Children’s Clothing Closet (3C’s) in Panora, Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office, local fire departments, and more.

Extension Office Coordinator Megan Van Houten shares how people can help, “We are looking for specific items. We will have boxes at Hometown Foods in Panora, Guthrie (Center), and Stuart, as well as Dollar General in Guthrie (Center) and Ben’s Five and Dime in Panora. On our Facebook we have posted the list of items we are needing as well as we will have those items posted at those locations, and we will have them on our website.”

Donations can be left at collection boxes located at the businesses Van Houten mentioned, or at the Extension office in Guthrie Center.
