Over $1 million was given away at the fourth annual Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation grant award ceremony Monday night.
About $329,000 went to seven competitive grants in the county. The two highest amounts, $67,000, went to the City of Jefferson for the fundraising efforts for the Greene County Animal Shelter and the Jefferson Fire Department for purchasing portable radios. The City of Scranton received $60,000 for improvements to the community center and city hall. A $45,000 grant went to the City of Churdan for a playground project at the city park. Genesis Development received a $40,000 grant for transportation upgrades for clients. A $30,000 grant was given to Moving Mountains Movement for technology upgrades at History Boy Theatre Company. The Greene County Historical Society received a $20,000 grant to repair the ceiling in the historical museum.
About $268,000 went to three entities for pledged commitments for 2019 including the Greene County Community Foundation, Greene County Development Corporation and Greene County Medical Center. The municipalities made up $139,000, while the two school districts, Greene County and Paton-Churdan, each received $24,000.
Finally, as per the agreement with the non-profit gaming license holder of Wild Rose, GGCGC gave its 0.9-percent of the five-percent adjusted gross revenue of the casino, or $258,000, to the six contiguous counties of Boone, Calhoun, Carroll, Dallas, Guthrie and Webster.
