12:09am: The GCMC ER requested an officer to perform a Preliminary Breath Test on a subject being seen for a Workman’s Compensation Claim.

1:11pm: An officer was requested at the Greene County Elementary School, located at 401 East Russell Street. The school reported an eight-year-old male juvenile had assaulted a teacher. The child had already been picked up by parents when the officer arrived. The teacher received minor injuries in the incident. The officer is investigating the event.

3:15pm: An officer investigated a Two Vehicle Property Damage Accident at Elm and Lincoln Way Streets. A 1997 Chevrolet K1500, owned and operated by Richard

Moranville of Jefferson, was eastbound on West Lincoln Way Street. Moranville left the posted stop sign at the intersection and was struck by a vehicle heading north on Elm Street. The 2015 Kia Optima, owned by Corey Heltemes and operated by Kimberly Heltemes of Arizona, left the posted stop sign and struck the front passenger tire area of the Moranville vehicle. Both units suffered disabling damages. The Moranville vehicle had a reported $3000.00 in damages, while the Heltemes vehicle suffered a reported $8000.00 in front end damages. Heltemes was cited for, “Fail to Obey Stop Sign and Fail to Provide Proof of Financial Liability – Accident.”

6:08pm: Dairy Queen workers advised a juvenile male had climbed over the guard fence on the RR Overpass Bridge located in the 600 Block of North Elm Street. The officers made contact with the male juvenile in the 300 Block of North Elm Street and spoke with him about the issue. The officer took the juvenile home and spoke to his mother and advised her of his findings.

7:09pm: Officers were called to 304 East Lincoln Way Street for a reported Violation of a Protective Order and a Domestic Abuse Assault. The officers spoke to the victim and witnesses at the address and learned the estranged husband had fled from the residence after the event. Officers located the male in the 400 Block of North Cedar Street and spoke with him. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Branden Gerrick Smith, 43 of Jefferson for, Violation of Protective Order – Simple, Domestic Abuse Assault 3rd or Subsequent – D Felony, and Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree – Aggravated.”
