Seven Perry High School vocalists participated in the recent Iowa High School Music Association State Solo and Ensemble Contest, and one in particular received very high marks.
Senior Allie Taggart performed as a solo vocalist as well as in a duet, and earned division “I” ratings in both categories. Taggart’s duet partner was fellow senior Adrianna Eastman, who was also her fellow drum major for the Perry Marching Band this past year. The six other entries at the contest — Eastman, Amber Benway, Molly Moorhead, Julia Stetzel, Anna Ridnour, and Sharitzy Romero — each received division “II” ratings. The IHSMA defines a “I” rating as “a superior performance, outstanding in nearly every detail,” while a “II” rating is “an excellent performance, but not worthy of the highest rating because of minor defects in delivery.”
The State Solo and Ensemble Contest was held on Saturday, March 30th at Greene County High School in Jefferson.
