With the weather starting to become more spring-like in the last week, people are once again starting to think about yard maintenance.
With that in mind, the City of Perry recently announced their 2019 yard waste pick-up schedule. City Administrator Sven Peterson says this year the dates will be from April 10th through December 11th. The pick-up will be on Wednesdays, rotating between the north and south sides of Willis Avenue. Peterson adds, the schedule may seem longer this year than in the past, and that’s by design. “It seemed for the last few years that we ended up adding a few yard waste days on the end of the calendar anyway. So I think last year led to this year we decided to actually just extend yard waste (pick-up) through kind of (the) middle of December.”
Peterson points out that the yard waste schedule will be sent out in the next water bill, and it will include information on weeks where the pick-up will be suspended due to holidays. There is no cost to utilize the service, as long as residents are up-to-date on their garbage fees. Peterson says yard waste should be placed in paper bags that can be obtained at most local retailers, though he reminds people that branches should be cut and bundled together.
