In addition to the relief provided by state and federal agencies following a disaster declaration for Dallas, Guthrie, and Adair counties, the Iowa Department of Revenue is helping businesses affected by the recent flooding by giving them some extra time.
Department of Revenue Director Kraig Paulsen recently announced that the business owners in the 41 counties included in the recent disaster proclamation would get a 30-day extension on filing their taxes. As a result, there will be no penalties or interest for taxpayers whose principal residence or business is located in the disaster areas, and whose payment or return is due on or before March 31st. The extension includes all tax types.
State law authorizes the Department of Revenue to extend the tax filing period in response to any disaster declaration made by the Governor. Paulsen felt it was necessary to do so in this case, particularly due to the proximity of the flooding events to the normal filing deadline. Governor Kim Reynolds issued the proclamation on March 18th, and it included Dallas, Guthrie, and Adair counties.
