The ACGC boys track and field team got their 2019 competitive season off and running Tuesday at the Iowa State High School Boys Indoor Classic.
Senior Noah Nelsen turned in the best performance in Ames for the Chargers. Nelsen placed 13th in the 3200 meter run with a time of 10:12.91. He was the third fastest runner in the event from Class 2A, finishing behind Treynor’s Jerry Jorgenson and Madrid’s Sean McDermott who finished in 4th and 5th place respectively.
Classmate Clay Billheimer joined Nelsen inside the top 30 of the 1600 meter run. Billheimer came in 24th at 4:53.83 while Nelsen finished in 27th at 4:56.21. The pair were third and fourth out of all West Central Activities Conference runners in the event, with a pair of Madrid Tigers taking the top two spots in that distinction.
The distance medley relay team also had an impressive showing with an 18th place finish. The Chargers crossed the line with a time of 3:55.30, over two seconds faster than the top time last season for the gold and black. Two other individuals cracked the top 40 in their events. Senior Dylan Soper finished 29th in the 60 meter dash at 7.53 and junior Quynton Younker placed 39th in the shot put with a launch of 41 feet, ten inches.
