With this weekend including the St. Patrick’s Day holiday, there might be several occasions where alcohol is served and impaired driving may happen.

The Jefferson Police Department is once again participating in the Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau’s special Traffic Enforcement Program (sTEP) Wave. According to the GTSB in 2017 over the St. Patrick’s Day holiday, there were 59 fatalities nationwide and 37-percent involved drunk drivers. The Jefferson Police Department will be on the lookout for drunk and drugged drivers, along with seat belt usage.

The current sTEP Wave runs through Sunday.
