The Guthrie County Veterans Memorial Wall Committee is traveling back in time to raise funds for their project.
The Committee is hosting a Sock Hop on Saturday March 30th from 7-10 p.m. at the Stuart American Legion Rec Center. A free will donation will be accepted to attend this old-fashioned evening of fun and music, with proceeds going towards a fourth wall to be erected at the veteran’s memorial located outside the Guthrie County Courthouse. The Committee received an overwhelming response of Guthrie County veterans’ names to be inscribed onto black granite walls to be added to the existing memorial. Currently, the Committee has enough funds to erect three walls but are seeking to have enough funds for a fourth wall to include all the names and those to be added in the future. There will be prizes for best costume and best dancer as well as other games and prizes. Refreshments will also be available. For more information on the wall project, contact Trudi Tam at 641-757-0709, Mike Johnson at 515-523-1200, or Ila Buker at 641-755-2632. Donations can be made payable to the Guthrie County Veterans Wall Committee at 2692 Wagon Road, Stuart, IA 50250.
