Last week, the West Central Valley Boys’ Golf Team spent the week working on their techniques and fundamentals after the snow melted. Much to the surprise of nearly every Iowan, grass still existed underneath the two feet deep snow blanket that covered the area before the warm up last week.

The Wildcats have the next two weeks to continue to hone in and fine tune their skills before it’s their turn to hit the links for the first time.

The Wildcats have some big shoes to fill this spring with the graduation of their Senior leader, last season, Garret Caltrider. Caltrider lead West Central Valley with an average of 41.44 for nine holes. His overall best 9 holes last season was a score of 35.

A younger Caltrider will play again for WCV this spring. Garret’s younger brother, Sophomore, Grant Caltrider will take the torch from his older brother in leading the WCV Boys’ Golf Team for coach, David Doely’s club. Grant Caltrider was the team’s second leader with an average of 43.56 strokes for nine holes played. His best nine was a score of 38 in his Freshman season.

Other returning players for West Central Valley include, Seniors, Cole Arnburn, Devan Jones, Tony Jones, and Matt Smith. Junior, Cain Brandon will also look to return for the Wildcats.

The first meet of the season for the West Central Valley Boys’ Golf team is Monday, April 1st against Des Moines Christian and Pleasantville at Jester Park Golf Course.
