The Jefferson City Council met Tuesday night in regular session.
Following a public hearing on the 2020 fiscal year budget, the Council approved the budget with a $14.81 per $1,000 property valuation tax levy. The Council then approved the City’s insurance policy with Unger Insurance for $185,862. Additionally the Council approved a $6,600 initial purchase of the building at 107 North Chestnut Street using tax increment financing funds and an economic development agreement to install a new roof on the building at 106 East State Street. The Council also approved a plat of survey for Krieger Land LLC to sell lot 7 and part of lot 5 to Dan Benitz.
Finally, the Council discussed its options for filling Larry Teeples’ seat on the council. The Council could appoint someone to fill the vacancy until the upcoming November general election. Then whoever is elected at that time would serve until the end of the term in 2021. The public could petition for a special election to be held, and whoever is elected who then serve until 2021. The Council could fill it by appointment and the public could then petition for a special election. A decision will need to be made before May 5th.
