At the most recent Perry School Board meeting, architecture firm UNESCO gave an overview of the industrial technology facility and wrestling/multipurpose room project.
Superintendent Clark Wicks says the design team has been hard at work, and they hope to have more detailed blueprints to present soon. The firm will then solicit bids for the first phase of construction, which Wicks says will include some ground movement. “So things are kicking off very quickly, and it’s an exciting time. And we’ll be meeting again later on in March to start getting into more of the details of the design. (We) hope that things can get started with the site preparation and some of the foundational work, you know maybe even later on this fall.”
Wicks adds, the timeline is currently dependant on the weather, but UNESCO estimates that the new facilities will be operational by fall of 2020. In order to accomplish that, the firm plans to open up the bidding for the second package late this fall, and possibly award the project around the end of the calendar year. The School Board has already approved the issuance of $6.5 million in general obligation school bonds, which will be sold in the coming months, to pay for the project. Additionally, they approved a contract with Jones, Haugh, and Smith, Incorporated for $7,500 plus reimbursable expenses to handle the geotechnical land surveying.
