The Perry School Board convened Monday evening in regular session.

The meeting began with several reports, starting with one from the Junior Class Prom Committee, who talked about this year’s dance. The Board then received a report on the proposed fiscal year 2020 budget from Kent Bultman, the District’s Business Manager. The next report was from UNESCO, the architecture firm in charge of the industrial technology facility and wrestling/multipurpose room project, who gave an update on what’s been done since the bond referendum was passed and described the timeline. The last presentation was from Industrial Technology Instructor Chad Morman, who talked about the proposed Building Trades class. The Board will consider action on creating the class at their next meeting.

In general business, the Board accepted the abstract of votes provided by the State of Iowa, which detailed the successful bond referendum vote. That was followed by the approval of a resolution authorizing the issuance of not-to-exceed $6.5 million in general obligation school bonds for the (Industrial Tech and wrestling/multipurpose room) facility project. Next, they approved a new agreement for ethernet services with the Iowa Communications Network. The contract was for $6,451.20 annually, which was reduced from the full price by 80% thanks to the government’s e-rate program. The Board also approved setting April 8th as the date for a public hearing to present the certified budget for the next fiscal year, as well as approving a budget guarantee resolution as they do each year.

Other items on the agenda that were approved included: a donation of $500 to the Junior Class Prom Committee; a contract for student teacher field experience with the University of Northern Iowa; revisions to Board policies and personnel changes; and a geotech land surveying contract for the new facilities. The meeting concluded with an exempt session to conduct negotiations strategy.
